With a view to sensitize the local public opinion on the creation of a university unit in the province of Driwash, MIU President Benkaddour convened a meeting with the Driwash Municipal Council led by Dr. BenaissaBouyazan, incumbent president of the Council. The meeting was held in the Council premises in Driwash.  In the beginning, Pr. Benkaddour, gave an overview of the said project, its prospects, its potential programmes and its future potentials.  He also highlighted the socio-economic and educational importance of such a project for the students and the area as a whole.  In addition, he expressed his hope that this project will see the light in the near future to offer the students of the area equal opportunities for the trainings to be offered in the various fields of knowledge.

Similarly, the President laid out the various challenges that are standing in the way of a quick execution and completion of the project; but he also expressed his hope that through the collaboration with the active actors in the community these obstacles will be overcome.

In his turn, Mr. Bouyazan, speaking on behalf of the Council, expressed the readiness of the whole community through its active elements to commit itself behind the project.  He added that the Driwash Province, and through it the whole Rif area, has been – over the history of the Western Islamic world and that of the kingdom of Morocco in particular – a country of learning and knowledge as would be testified through its various centers of learning scattered in the area.  The Province, in his view, continues to contribute to the building up of the welfare of the country, the consolidation of the national and religious values.

In addition, he exhorted the members of the community to participate whole heartedly to the completion of such a project not only out of love of knowledge but also because of their concern for the welfare of their region which is part and parcel of the kingdom enlightened by His Majesty King Mohamed VI’s guidance, May God preserve Him.

As a token of gratitude sealing this encounter, Mr. Bouyazan offered a copy of the first publication of the Council on the history of the area.  In the end, both Presidents agreed to hold more meetings with the local actors to probe further the prospects of bringing this project to completion.
